Overdentures and Removable Dentures East Vancouver

Living with the loss of multiple teeth can be challenging. Eating and enjoying the foods you love becomes difficult, and you might also feel self-conscious about the appearance of your smileGrandparents and their granddaughter with gaps. Unfortunately, losing multiple teeth often results in more tooth loss because you also start to lose bone density.

The good news is that there are excellent solutions for your smile with traditional dentures and overdentures.

Restoring Your Smile with Dentures

Here's an overview of your options when it comes to replacing your teeth with dentures in Vancouver.

Traditional Complete Dentures

Also called full dentures, traditional dentures replace either your upper or lower arch of teeth, or both. They're typically made of acrylic and thoughtfully designed for a natural look that is complementary to your skin tone.

These dentures are removable for cleaning, and they rely on suction, a snug fit, and often adhesives to stay in place.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are also removable and are ideal for replacing multiple missing teeth but also allowing you to retain your healthy remaining teeth. They use metal clasps as anchors to healthy teeth to stay in place, and they support prosthetic teeth that are strategically placed to fill the gaps in your smile.

Implant-Supported Overdentures

Dental implants can replace multiple missing teeth because they can support dental prosthetics like full dentures. Implant overdentures in East Vancouver are also known as implant-supported dentures because Dr. Liu uses four to six dental implants to support and stabilize your denture.

Frequently Asked Questions

An implant-supported denture is a type of overdenture that is supported by and attached to implants in the jawbone. Unlike regular dentures that rest on the gums, implant-supported dentures are anchored to dental implants, which provide greater stability and support. The implants help keep the overdenture securely in place, yet it can still be removed for cleaning.

What Are the Advantages of Implant-Supported Dentures in Vancouver?

Implant-supported dentures can be made for both the upper and lower jaws, but are most commonly used in the lower jaw, where traditional dentures are less stable.

They offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Improved comfort — Implant dentures don't rely on suction to stay in place and can be more comfortable for patients to wear.
  • Excellent stability — There's no movement or slippage with implant dentures.
  • Enhanced chewing ability — It's easier to chew and eat with dentures that are stable and don't move or slip during chewing.
  • Prevention of bone loss — Implant dentures keep the bone healthy and stable, preventing the bone loss that often occurs with tooth loss.

It's important to have a thorough evaluation with a dentist to determine if implant-supported dentures are the best option for you. These dentures require a sufficient amount of healthy jawbone to support the implants. If you lack a sufficient amount of healthy bone structure, additional procedures like bone grafting may be required to rebuild the jawbone for proper implant and denture support.

The Process of Completing Implant-Supported Dentures in Vancouver

diagram of dentures in Vancouver BCWhether you're looking to replace your upper arch of teeth or the lower, or both, Dr. Liu and his team can help!

For the upper arch, Dr. Liu will strategically place six dental implants into your jawbone and design your upper denture to "snap" into them. Dr. Liu uses 3-D imaging to plan the surgery ahead of time so that each implant is placed with exact precision.

With implant supported overdentures, patients are able to remove their dentures on their own for cleaning at night, but you'll also enjoy the security overdentures provide in knowing that you can comfortably eat, chew, laugh, and talk without your denture slipping or feeling uncomfortable.

For the lower arch, Dr. Liu may only need two implants on each side for support. The planning and placement process is the same as with upper dentures.

If you're living with ill-fitting dentures or struggling with multiple compromised teeth, contact your team at Alta Dental Studio for more information on if overdentures are right for you.

The Advantages of Implant Overdentures

Overdentures supported with dental implants offer superior stability for denture wearers because they hold the appliance securely in place. So patients can feel peace of mind knowing their dentures won't move or slip during talking or eating. This can also be an ideal solution for patients who are living with ill-fitting dentures that are uncomfortable or cause embarrassing situations with slippage.

Dental implants provide the added benefit of keeping your jawbone healthy like your tooth roots did. Implants prevent bone deterioration, which is often associated with traditional denture wear. This gives patients improved longevity for their appliances.
