Dental Veneers in East Vancouver

Woman smiling with her veneersIs there something you don’t like about your smile? Maybe you have uneven gaps and spacing or mild alignment issues that throw off the symmetry of your smile. Or, perhaps you have a tooth that’s larger or smaller than the others and want your smile to have a more uniform appearance.

The thing that all these imperfections have in common is that they can we can resolve them with dental veneers. At Alta  Dental Studio, we customize veneers to fit the unique needs of each of our patients. We want you to have options, so we offer both porcelain veneers and composite bonding.

What Is a Dental Veneer?

Much like a veneer on furniture, dental veneers create a new surface that conceals what’s beneath it. We commonly use veneers to fix aesthetic issues like:

  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Uneven spacing between teeth
  • A wide gap between upper front teeth
  • Crooked or misshapen teeth
  • Severely stained teeth that resist whitening

The Unseen Benefits of a Smile Transformation

Porcelain veneers can truly transform your smile! Here are some of the advantages you might not have considered.

Confidence Boost

Feeling good about the appearance of your smile enhances your confidence and self-esteem.

Better Function

Your chewing and biting function improves when your teeth are healthy and in good repair.

Easier Home Care

Brushing and flossing teeth that are in alignment and good repair is much easier and more effective.

Frequently Asked Questions

Veneers in Vancouver, BC, are versatile cosmetic restorations that can conceal most tooth flaws. Depending on your goals, you can choose to treat one tooth or several.

A dental veneer is a thin shell of strong porcelain fixed to the forward-facing tooth surface. Like dental enamel, it reflects light and blends easily with surrounding teeth.

To cement your porcelain dental veneer, the dentist must remove some enamel to ensure a non-bulky and natural-looking finish. Removing enamel means you must consider your veneers permanent and replace them if they are lost or damaged.

Composite bonding is like veneers but may not conceal as many aesthetic issues or enjoy the same longevity.

Dental Issues Veneers Can Hide

Veneers can conceal a wide range of cosmetic flaws, including:

  • Short or worn-down teeth
  • Gummy appearing smiles
  • Slight misalignment
  • Discolouration
  • Small spaces between teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth

Your dentist consults with you to ensure veneers are suitable for you, will correct your cosmetic flaws, and help you achieve your smile goals.

Porcelain Veneers vs. Composite Bonding

Both treatments have the effect of improving your smile but go about the process in very different ways:

Porcelain Veneers

Diagram showing how a dental veneer covers teethPorcelain veneers are customized shells of tooth-shaped porcelain that are fabricated at an outside lab, then bonded to your teeth at our Vancouver dental office. The process typically takes place over two or three appointments.

Choosing porcelain veneers has several benefits:

  • They closely resemble dental enamel – Porcelain has a translucent appearance that is similar to dental enamel, so they blend seamlessly with your smile.
  • They’re durable and long-lasting – Porcelain veneers can last as long as ten years with proper care.
  • They resist staining – The smooth, glass-like finish of porcelain veneers helps resist staining.

Since the procedure for placing a veneer involves altering the contours of your natural tooth, the process cannot be undone.

Composite Bonding

With this approach, our doctors use tooth-coloured composite filling material that they bond to the surface of a tooth to improve its shape, size, or colour. The benefits composite veneers offer are:

  • We don’t have to remove as much dental enamel as we do with veneers
  • Since we can usually place composites in just one appointment, they’re generally less expensive than porcelain veneers.
  • They are not as durable as porcelain veneers, but they are easy to repair if they get damaged

Which Type of Veneers Is Right for You?

If your teeth and gums are healthy, you are a good candidate for veneers. However, if you have decay or periodontal disease, they must be treated before we can place veneers. Teeth grinding or bruxism damage veneers, so we need to address this problem first.

Dr. Jason Liu and his professional team enjoy helping our patients achieve their goals for a healthier, more attractive smile. If you have cosmetic issues that concern you, please call Alta Dental Studio so we can get you in for a consultation to discuss your needs.
