Does Invisalign hurt?

Invisalign is not typically painful but can make a person’s teeth feel sore. Invisalign clear aligners are an orthodontic treatment, so when you first wear your aligners, your teeth may feel them exerting slight pressure. This same temporary soreness occurs when a dentist tightens or adjusts traditional braces.

While Invisalign clear aligner trays are smooth plastic, they still reposition your teeth into alignment with carefully applied tension. Discomfort from your new clear aligners may last for a few days.

Patients wear a new set of Invisalign aligners every two weeks, so each time you start wearing a new set, you may expect some degree of short-term discomfort. Over time, your teeth get accustomed to the aligners, and the soreness eventually subsides.

If you experience persistent pain during treatment, we welcome your call. Dr. Jason Liu and our team can assess your situation and offer treatment for your discomfort.
