The goal of the CDCP is to make dental care more accessible and help Canadians maintain their oral health.
But how do you know what isn’t covered?
What Services Are Not Included Under CDCP Benefits?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan covers many routine preventive treatments, including routine exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, root canals, dentures, and extractions.
The percentage of coverage is based on your family’s adjusted net income; if you make less than a certain amount, you’ll have a $0 co-pay, but the CDCP has different income tiers.
However, these are the procedures that typically aren’t covered under the CDCP:
- Cosmetic dentistry, including veneers and teeth whitening
- Orthodontics, including braces and clear aligners (unless medically necessary)
- Dental implants and some other tooth replacement options
