Bridges and dentures are both common alternatives to dental implants for replacing one or more missing teeth. Depending on the number of missing teeth, where they are in your mouth, and the condition of your remaining teeth, our dentist may suggest fixed dental bridges or removable partial or complete dentures.
Dental Bridges: The "Fixed" Solution
A dental bridge relies on crowns that are anchored to healthy teeth, which support one or more prosthetic teeth in between. A bridge can be a viable solution for missing adjacent teeth. A bridge is fixed, so you won't remove it for cleaning.
Dentures: The "Versatile" Solution
Complete and partial dentures are typically removable, although we can use dental implants to support them in some cases.
A partial anchors to healthy remaining teeth with plastic or metal clasps and fills in the gaps with prosthetic teeth. A denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth and uses the jawbone for stability and suction to stay in place. You'll remove a partial or full denture at night for cleaning.
