The Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma for Healing

The technology surrounding oral surgery in dentistry has evolved and improved a lot over the years. One significant advance is helping patients heal more effectively after a surgical procedure using platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP promotes the body's natural capacity for healing using its own platelets to improve and accelerate the healing process and protect against infection. Here's what you should know.

How Does Platelet-rich Plasma?

During PRP therapy, our dentists draw the patient's own blood and spin it rapidly in a PRP centrifuge machine, which results in a concentration of healing platelets our dentists apply to the surgical site. This concentrated, platelet-rich blood contains three to five times the number of growth factors found in normal blood, which helps rebuild tissue and bone more quickly.

What Are the Benefits of Using PRP Therapy?

PRP provides several benefits to our patients, such as:

  • Faster healing Dental Implants- Healing time is significantly reduced for patients with PRP therapy
  • Convenience - We can harvest PRP right in our Vancouver dental office using only a small amount of your own blood
  • Reduces the risk of infection - Quicker healing reduces the risk of developing an infection

Which Dental Procedures Can Utilize PRP Therapy?

PRP can greatly benefit patients who need oral surgery procedures like a tooth extraction or dental implant placement. PRP can make the healing process after these procedures more comfortable, safe, and effective.
