Are dental crowns permanent?

A dental crown is considered a permanent procedure because your dentist will alter your natural tooth structure to place your crown.

Our dentists will design your tooth crown to fit over your remaining tooth, but it replaces your whole tooth while protecting your root. Made from ceramic porcelain that is both durable and aesthetic to match your smile, you'll enjoy all the functions of eating and chewing that you had before your tooth was damaged.

A crown is ideal for restoring a tooth that has sustained more decay or a bigger fracture than what a filling can repair.

It will typically require two appointments to restore your tooth with a dental crown in Vancouver. During your first visit, our dentists take impressions of your tooth with 3-D imaging and prepare it for its final restoration. We will also make a temporary crown for you to wear while a dental lab is crafting your permanent crown.

When your porcelain crown is ready, you'll return to Alta Dental Studio to have your final restoration placed. Our dentists adjust your new crown to ensure that your bite is functioning correctly, and then you're all set to enjoy your new tooth.
