Important Tips for Brushing Your Teeth Effectively

Even if you brush and floss your teeth after every meal, you may not be getting the most out of your oral care routine.

Your Vancouver, BC dentist and the team at Alta Dental Studio have put together a few tips to help you make the most of your brushing and flossing sessions.

Choose the Right Toothbrush

Unless otherwise directed by your dentist, you should be using a standard soft-bristled toothbrush to clean your teeth.

Use the Correct Brushing Technique

Dampen your toothbrush with water and use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Next, brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle, using a circular motion. And be sure also to clean your gums.

Additionally, brush every tooth on all sides, including rear molars and the backs of teeth.

Finally, don’t forget to brush your tongue to eliminate bacteria.

When you’ve finished cleaning your mouth—spending at least two minutes—you should rinse thoroughly with water.

Don’t Forget to Floss

Your toothbrush is excellent at cleaning your teeth, but it can’t always reach the spaces in between. For this, you’ll need dental floss.

Be sure to use a clean section of floss for each go-through, and never tug or force your floss. Instead, you’ll want to move along each tooth, following the natural curve to the gumline.

Regular Dental Checkups and Teeth Cleanings in Vancouver

Regular dental visits are a crucial complement to brushing and flossing. Exams help your dentist spot emerging issues before they cause serious complications, and teeth cleanings rid your mouth of harmful bacteria, lowering your risks for cavities and gum disease.
