Dental emergencies are inconvenient and scary, especially if you're not sure what to do. Your first reaction might be to panic, but it's best to remain calm. Your Vancouver emergency dentist at Alta Dental Studio is here to help, and you can reach us by calling (604) 876-5032.

The situation is less stressful when you have an emergency dental team you can rely on, and you know what to do. Here are some tips for handling common dental emergencies until you can get to our dental office.

A Toothache or Dental Pain

If you are experiencing constant dental pain or a toothache that isn't relieved with over-the-counter medicine, it could indicate that your tooth is infected. A tooth infection won't resolve on its own, so you must contact your Vancouver dentist as soon as possible.

If your tooth is infected, a root canal may be required to preserve it. An infected tooth that is left untreated will get progressively worse and may need extraction.

A Broken or Lost Dental Restoration

If you lose a dental filling or a crown, you may or may not experience discomfort. Either way, it's important to repair your tooth so you can avoid further damage.

Contact your dentist for further instruction over the phone. They will assess your situation and determine if you need immediate attention.

A Knocked-Out Tooth

When your tooth is dislodged, time is of the essence. The quicker your dentist can treat your condition, the better chance they have to save your tooth. Contact your emergency dentist right away.

Transport your tooth to the dental office carefully. Try not to handle it too much and don't touch the root. If you can, replace it into its socket; if not, use milk or saliva to keep it moist during transportation.

A Chipped or Broken Tooth

Find the pieces of your broken tooth and bring them to your dentist as soon as you can. If the chip is minor, your dentist should still smooth it, so it doesn't irritate your gums or soft tissues, but you may not need immediate attention.

Don't Hesitate to Call

If you or your loved one is suffering from dental pain or experiencing a tooth emergency, don't wait to contact Alta Dental Studio.
